What is Palmistry / Palm Reading ?
Palmistry is the process of foretelling ones future by the imprints and marks on the palm. It is also termed as Chiromancy.
Palmistry is based upon the interpretation of the general characteristics of one's hands, together with the study of the lines, their patterns and other formations and marks, which appear on the palms and fingers.
Although the general nature of one's hands does not change, the lines, patterns and formations do. Palmistry may relate to the physical state, emotional, mental and health condition, tendencies and modes of interaction with others.
Palmistry- Relevance today
Palmistry is in itself a complete science which can forecast the future of an individual authentically. In the present day modern world, it would be very helpful for a person if his future is known. It would be easier for him to reach his destined destination. For this purpose we need an authentic and reliable science which can tell the complete past and to fore- see.
Palmistry is an important science which tells us about the future very genuinely. Of, course there are the various brances of Astrology which predict the future course of an individual , but palmistry gets one step more in it the results are very clear and accurate. In the other branches of Astrology, the moment of birth is very important (which at times is not available to the individual concerned) but in Palmistry, it is the lines and mounts on one's hand that hold the key to his future.
The small, thick, thin and oblique lines, mounts and markings in the palm of a person have the whole future imprinted therein. Palmistry has and is contributing a lot to the medical and criminal/forensic sciences. The diseases of a person can be easily recognised by an experienced Palmistry Reader and the finger imprints can be used to identify criminal cases.

Palmistry and Astrology Part Two
Palmistry and Astrology Part Three
Palm reading was (and still is) a predominantly Asian and Oriental skill, and this knowledge has only in relatively recent times been analyzed and written down, rather than passed on verbally. The connection of ideas between palmistry and astrology makes more sense when we look at them both from the viewpoint of astrological ideas that pre-date Jungian psychology, and also as they are considered in the East. The traditional names of the various parts of a hand are linked to the seven visible planets—the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiterand Saturn. The energies connected to those hand areas were once closely linked to astrology, but both palmistry and astrology have become modernized, and the two systems have drifted slightly apart. So let us look at the links between them and perhaps learn something of older forms of astrological thinking, and also the way people thought of themselves and the world they lived in way back when.

The Public and Private Hand
Using either hand, take a ruler or a pen and lay it down your hand, from between the two middle fingers down to the wrist. The side of the hand that includes the thumb concerns public life, so it has an “Ascendant” and “Midheaven” feel to it. The other side of the hand connects more closely to relationships and home life, and thus has a “Descendant” and “Imum Coeli” feel to it.

The Jupiter Section
The forefinger and the “mount” that is on the palm immediately below this finger is known as “Jupiter.” This is concerned with self-confidence, belief systems, our approach to life, morals, leadership abilities and ambition. A person with a strong ego and a streak of independence has a long and strong Jupiter finger that pulls away from the middle finger, and a well-developed Jupiter mount. This may seem a long way from our modern day Jupitarian ideas of travel, the law, education, philosophy and expansion of horizons, but it is close to the more ancient forms of astrology that assigned the notion of beliefs and moral attitudes to Jupiter. A person who lives life to the full and who has status in his community, who has strong political and moral beliefs and is law-abiding, has a strong Jupiter finger and a definite Jupiter mount. Strong personalities wag this finger around while lecturing or berating others. To see this in action, watch the kind of politicians who harangue their audiences, or better still watch the unfortunate people on the Jerry Springer Show who try to scream and shout their partners into obeying their wishes and doing what they think is “right.” Jupiter ambitions might include changing the world, becoming rich and respected in the community or being known for some talent, but they can also include the desire for a secure and happy home and family life and the notion that one’s partner should share these beliefs. A drifter who has no real ambition, or one who leans on or who is dominated by others, has a short and weak looking Jupiter finger and a small and flattened Jupiter mount. Such a Jupiter finger may also lean inward and “cling” to the middle finger. A strong Jupiter not only knows what is right for him but also wants to instruct others. A weak one couldn’t care less. In older communities through the ages, what we know as “politically correct” thinking was wrapped up in religion. Public behavior, attitudes and even the type and color of clothing that people wore were dictated by the prevailing Jupiter philosophy of each place and time. In some parts of the world, it still is. Modern astrologers brush over the religious and moral aspects of Jupiter, concentrating far more on travel, education and luck, but belief (including belief in oneself) is fundamental to this planet.

The Saturn Section
The middle finger and the area on the hand directly beneath it is called “Saturn.” This also once related to religion, but in this case, to the study of religion and equally importantly, the study of science; plus math, logic, languages and a myriad of practical skills such as building, farming, engineering and, invariably, the ability to handle details. A strong and long Saturn finger belongs to a responsible person who accumulates resources in the form of knowledge or power, wealth and goods. Today, we exhort our children to acquire skills so that they will be able to make their way in the world. It must have taken some mightily Saturn fingered types to climb out of European, Asian and African poverty and peasantry in order to make the journey to the New World and to make a success of it! A very short or weak Saturn finger suggests a personality who doesn’t wish to study and work in order to gain wealth or status. He may drift, gamble or lean on others and avoid taking responsibility for his own life. This person is unlikely to try to improve his mind or his position by studying, and he will have an “unscientific” mind. A birth chart with a weak Saturn is much the same. There is no real “mount” below the Saturn finger, but the appearance of vertical lines on this area of the hand suggests enjoying a decent length of life, which is very Saturnian. A heavy concentration of lines here suggests that the subject will always work for his bread, while lines that veer away from the Saturn finger suggest a fairly easy old age. If you want to know something about the connections between palmistry and astrology regarding Venus, Mercury, Mars, the Sun and the Moon, and more, look for Part Two of this article. Palmistry and Astrology Part Three This is the second in a series of articles that covers the planets as they are known to palm readers, with an eye on those of you who are familiar with astrology. Remember that the palmist’s view of the planetary references is closer to older forms of astrology than to modern ideas.

The Apollo Finger and the Sun
Even those who are mildly interested in astrology know their Sunsign, and palmistry has a Sun sign, too. Hand reading uses the old name for the god of the Sun, which is Apollo. The Apollo finger is the third or ring finger on each hand, and this links extraordinarily well with astrology. It represents arts and music, leisure and pleasure, the home, gambling, affection and creativity. If we look back to older forms of astrology and mythology, Apollo was often shown playing a lyre, and he is the god of music. Apollo is also associated with having fun, and that idea still persists in astrology. When the Apollo finger is longer than the Jupiter(index) finger, the person is creative and possibly also artistic; when this finger is almost as long as the Saturn(middle) finger, he is a good actor and possibly also a good singer. The person is musical when the fingertip is wide, while a fingertip that has a thick pad underneath shows excellence at craft work, sewing, pottery, gardening, cooking and similar “crafty” things. The downside is that a long Apollo person can lack practicality and may find it hard to hang on to money. If the Apollo finger is considerably longer than the Jupiter finger, the subject may have a low sense of self-esteem, and he may lean on others for support. Think in terms of the Sun in Pisces; such people are extremely creative, but they can be put-upon. One of the older Sun-Apollo connections that is ignored by Western astrologers (although not by Asian ones) is that of being clever and successful in business. Astrologers comment on creativity in connection with the Sun, forgetting that starting and running a business is also an act of creation. A long, substantial Apollo finger will help the person to create a business or to create a wonderful home and family, as well as to be artistic, musical and creative in other ways. Problems can arise if the Apollo finger is long but the Jupiter finger is short, because the person may lack leadership qualities and confidence. An average Apollo finger is much the same length as the Jupiter (index) finger. This person has self-esteem but without selfishness, and can love others but not to the point of self-sacrifice. He is creative enough, but also worldly, wise and ambitious enough. In short, he is balanced. A very short Apollo finger may lack a sense of humor and won’t be terribly interested in family life. To be sure, he rarely gambles or loses money. He isn’t influenced by the opinions of others. He may end up wealthy, but he may also have relationship difficulties. The area on the hand immediately below this finger is called the mount of Apollo. The lines, marks and skin ridge patterns here show whether the subject will be happy in old age—indeed, they are a good indication that a person will actually reach old age! They show a great deal of information about a person’s home, his sense of humor (or lack of it), his sense of style, love of family, love of animals and love life in general. All in all, this is much like the Sun sign in astrology.

Mercury and the Little Finger
The little finger is the Mercuryfinger, and surprise, surprise, this refers to communication, but in this case also sexual communication! If the tip of this finger reaches the last joint on the Apollo finger, the subject will have good powers of communication. If this finger pulls away from the Apollo finger, the person is very independent, and he keeps to himself at work. He is slow to enter love relationships and he is cautious about sex. If the finger is stunted, he may avoid sex altogether. Sometimes these fingers hook, bend or curl, which indicates a stubborn character. So far, we’ve seen some striking similarities between astrology and palmistry, but neither the Mercury finger nor the mount of Mercury below it refer to short journeys, siblings, the neighborhood, magic, thievery or much else that astrologers associate with the planet Mercury. However, the area below the Mercury, finger has marks on it that show compassion and specific healing ability, and that is very much associated with Mercury, through its connection with the sign of Virgo. Other marks in the vicinity show mechanical ability, a love of learning and much about relating to others which ties up very neatly with Mercury in astrology.

The Mount of Venus
The mount of Venusis the large area of the palm that borders the thumb and is fenced in by the life line. This area shows the passion a person has for life and the amount of energy that he puts into it. This may relate to sexual passion, but also a passion for a job, a hobby or for life itself. Astrologers sometimes forget the “passion quotient” inherent in Venus in a chart, but its position and condition show exactly what and how a person loves. We tend to concentrate on the personal finance aspects of Venus, forgetting that it really reflects what is of value to us. In palmistry, when the mount of Venus is wide, there is plenty of passion for everything in life, whether this is love and sex or the ability to put one’s heart into a project. If Venus is narrow and weak, the person may set out full of enthusiasm, but fallby the wayside when the going gets rough. A high and wide mount of Venus suggests an accumulation of material goodies and money in the bank. This person may be a stylish dresser, and also a great cook or gardener. A low Venus suggests losses or a non-materialist attitude and a lack of interest in beauty, art, cooking, gardening or nice clothes. The Mount of the Moon The mount of the Moonis a large area that is located on the lower end of the side of the hand that is away from the thumb area. The Moon (or Luna) is associated with the imagination and with travel, and it reflects the restless and emotional side of one’s nature. This links almost exactly with astrology, because although novice astrologers concentrate so much on the emotional concerns of the Moon, they forget that travel and a restless search for adventure were once strongly associated with the Moon. If this area is large, and especially if it extends down almost into the wrist, the person will be a great traveler and may prefer to live close by water. Lines that appear on this area of the hand refer to travel, creativity, imagination and sometimes also luck. Some marks here talk about intuition, psychic ability and healing energies. A person with a strong Luna is quite emotional. This individual may love poetry or the words in popular songs, and will be extremely intuitive, possibly even psychic. The emotions are strong, and unless something feels right, this subject will feel uncomfortable. This almost exactly links to the Moon in astrology. There may be other links too, because the Moon and Luna can show that a person’s job deals with the public or produces things that the public likes.

The Mount of Neptune, or Pluto?
It has become fashionable among some palmists in recent years to call the area at the bottom of the hand where it meets the wrist the mount of Neptune, but I think it makes far more sense to call this area Pluto! This links the mounts of Venus and Luna, and it is said to be the link between the conscious mind (Venus) and the unconscious mind (Luna). A high mount shows intuitive or psychic ability; a dip in this area shows a lack of these traits. This mount is also a rich area for those who wish to study pregnancy and the reproductive organs. This part of the hand has much to say about the early days of a person’s life and the psychological influence this has had on him or her. Early sexual experiences and early attempts at relationships tend to show up here. Plutoin astrology shows exactly the same effects as this mount, in addition to the ideas of sharing resources with others or tapping into the resources of others. This idea of union between people or organizations exactly fits the union between the materialistic mount of Venus and the imaginative, creative, instinctive mount of Luna.

Mars Territory
There is a great swathe of the hand that reaches from the point where the thumb opens away from the hand, across the central area and out to the percussion edge that is all associated with Mars. Technically speaking, the thumb side is called lower Mars, the central area is called the plain of Mars and the percussion side is called upper Mars. A high and fat Mars area on the thumb side of the hand indicates a person who likes the sporting or military life, or such organizations such as the Scouts or similar quasi-military or religious groups. This individual may enjoy heading up a large business or other organization. This is very similar to a strong Mars effect on a birth chart. Other Mars features are found on the upper Mars mount, which includes the edge (percussion) of the hand. If this area is thick, the person will be hard to shock. The person may also be belligerent and quick to get into a fight. When the percussion is weak and thin, the person is easily shocked and upset and unlikely to put up a fight. When the percussion curves widely outward, there could be great creativity or a confrontational nature–or both. Mars in astrology shows how much fight a person has and where he or she will direct energy. A person with Mars in an earth sign will finish all that he or she starts. Similarly, strong upper and lower Mars mounts on a square, earthyhand show that the subject will rarely give up once set on a particular course of action.

The Thumb
To my mind, and to the minds of most palmists, the thumb is taken as a separate entity and not assigned to any of the planets. Some palmists try to associate the thumb with Venus, due to the fact that the large mount on the hand that leads to the thumb is the mount of Venus. However, this really doesn’t make any sense because there is absolutely nothing Venusianabout the thumb. The thumb is also attached to the area that is called lower Mars, and that has far more connection with those things with which the thumb is associated. For example, the thumb shows the way a person thinks and acts and approaches life in general—whether the individual has will power or goes about things in a logical manner or not. About the only Venus connection that I can find is that a person who has a thumb that turns back at the tip can be an impulsive shopper.

Uranus Influences Uranusdoesn’t seem to figure anywhere on a hand, but I have come to the conclusion that the knuckles on the backs of the hand and the finger joints should be looked at for Uranian tendencies. If these are prominent, wide and what palmists call “knotted,” they show an academic mind and a person who likes to think things through and act only when he or she has come to his or her own conclusions. These subjects can be stubborn and determined to live life in their own preferred way. They will only listen to logic, and even then, they may not be convinced. This kind of hand also shows a somewhat unusual outlook on life. Teaching ability is often shown by such hands, and such a person reads widely and has a number of unusual interests. Despite the stubborn nature of this personality, the subject is kind-hearted and sociable. Naturally, it is only Uranus that would have no actual mount assigned to it—but then we all know that Uranus likes to be different!
